Kingston Prairie Preserve, Meet at Greenbelt

          Celebrate Natural Areas Celebration Week with Greenbelt Land Trust as we explore Kingston Prairie Preserve, a beautiful 155-acre property protecting some of the best remaining native prairies in the Willamette Valley. May is the time to see wildflowers in bloom, and Kingston Prairie is the place to see them! This property, located near Stayton and the North Santiam River was protected by Greenbelt Land Trust in 2018, provides an excellent example of native plant diversity and grassland bird habitat. Rare plants such as the federally endangered Bradshaw’s lomatium and Willamette daisy are found on the property. Members Wildflower Walk and Picnic

          Calling all Greenbelt members! You are invited to this special members-only walk with us as we explore Little Willamette, a privately-owned conservation area stewarded by Greenbelt Land Trust near the Willamette River in Albany. This site has an abundance of spring wildflowers, ponds, and wildlife. We’ll walk through prairies and oak woodlands and enjoy a brown bag picnic at sunset. GLT Restoration Manager and resident plant expert, Matt Blakeley-Smith, will help identify native wildflowers while sharing information about GLT’s efforts to restore native habitats and species on the property. Tree and Shrub ID: Walk and Workshop**Filled**

        Lead by Ed Jensen, Professor Emeritus, OSU College of Forestry The first hour of this 2-hour workshop will be conducted inside Greenbelt’s Bald Hill farm house and will improve your ability to identify trees and shrubs in general.  In it, you will hone your knowledge of key plant characteristics and learn to use the identification key in Shrubs to Know in Pacific Northwest Forests to identify unknown shrubs.  The second hour will consist of a walking tour on the gentle trails around Bald Hill Farm, during which you will apply the skills you learned in the first hour. Let’s Pull Together for Trails!

        Calling volunteers! On Saturday, May 18th let's all pull together with Greenbelt Land Trust to repair sections of trail at Bald Hill Farm. This trail system is a popular gateway to natural areas, so come show it some love! By pulling together, we can improve our community trails for all to use. The Activity: Patch damaged sections of trail and re-engineer an eroded switchback. We’ll be shoveling gravel and moving it up to 1 mile in motorized toters. Hand tools will be used to apply gravel to trails. Be active at your own pace for several hours. Hike up to 6 miles…

        Come outdoors with Greenbelt Land Trust for a Qigong class at Bald Hill Farm! Qigong (pronounced “chee gung”) is a Chinese form of healing exercise practiced for thousands of years. The class will be led by Dr. Peter Eschwey of Soma Clinic for Natural Medicine in Corvallis. Dr. Eschwey is a certified Qigong instructor who has been in practice for over 20 years.
