Tarweed Awakening Corvallis: Prairie Walk at Bald Hill Farm

Join us from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 21 for a botany focused walk through the prairies of Bald Hill Farm!

Greenbelt Land Trust is thrilled to join this year’s Tarweed Awakening Corvallis festival with this walk focused on tarweed and the prairie ecosystem it depends on to thrive. Tarweed Awakening Corvallis is a multi-day community event that celebrates and shares the cultural and ecological significance of tarweed (asawal), a critical First Food of the Ampinefu Kalapuya.

The walk will be led by Greenbelt staff and members of the Mid Willamette Prescribed Burn Association. We’ll spend the evening exploring Bald Hill Farm’s newly restored prairies, learning about tarweed and other native prairie plants, and discussing the importance of fire for valley ecosystems.

Accessibility: The walk will cover approximately one mile on uneven mowed paths through the prairie. Participants should expect uneven ground and should plan to wear sturdy shoes, and dress for the weather.
