Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers for a blackberry-battling work party on Thursday, October 3rd, from 12 pm to 4 pm at Greenbelt’s Luckiamute Confluence property. Come volunteer on this newly protected floodplain habitat, located near the Willamette and Luckiamute rivers. Volunteers will remove blackberries and other plants around the house and orchard on the property, helping protect the house from encroaching vines. We’ll also take time to pick apples, grapes, and pears from the orchard.
No previous experience is necessary and volunteers of all ages are welcome! Tools and gloves will be provided. If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us, just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.
Wear: Plan to dress for the weather with sun protection or a rain jacket depending on the forecast. There will be shaded areas to work if the day gets hot.
Bring: A water bottle, a snack, and a bag to carry fruit home. You should also bring any emergency medications you usually have on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). Some snacks will be provided.
Accessibility notes: We will hike about a quarter mile on a gravel road to reach the project site. There is a restroom on site.
Notes for youth volunteers: Blackberry removers of all ages are welcome but youth under the age of 14 must attend with an adult. Youth volunteers attending without their parent/guardian should contact our volunteer coordinator, Jean, to fill out a youth waiver before the event.
Location: We will be working at Greenbelt’s Luckiamute Confluence property, next door to Luckiamute Landing State Natural Area. The drive from Corvallis takes about 25 minutes. Directions to the meeting location will be provided the week before the event.
