SUMMARY:Wednesday Walk - Oaks at Owens Farm
DESCRIPTION:Come out to join Greenbelt Land Trust’s Education Coordinator\, Kendra Callahan\, at Owens Farm for a leisurely walk under the oaks and out in the fields of this lovely property.  We will move at a slow pace and take time to stop\, look\, and listen and soak up the beauty of our surroundings.  Our focus will be on the many amazing adaptations of the Oregon White Oak\, why it is important in our Willamette Valley\, and why it is considered a keystone species in this region. \nThe walk will be less than two miles but we will go off trail and walk across fields and uneven ground. \nAll ages are welcome! Please sign up in advance and leave your dog at home. \nHope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Camas Planting at Bald Hill Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers for a work party planting Camas bulbs at Bald Hill Farm on Saturday\, October 24th\, from 10 am to 2 pm. \nCamas is a quintessential Willamette Valley species. It is an important First Food of the Kalapuyan and other Indigenous Peoples\, one of the first wildflowers that bloom in the valley each year\, and a valuable nectar species for our native pollinators. Want to help make sure Greenbelt’s restored prairies are full of purple camas blooms next spring? Join us for a day of bulb planting. \nNo previous experience is necessary and planters of all ages are welcome. Tools and gloves will be provided. If you are only able to attend for part of the time\, you’re still welcome to join us\, just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss. \nWear: Plan to dress for the weather with layers and rain gear. The ground may be soggy in the planting area\, so waterproof shoes are recommended. \nBring: Lunch\, a water bottle\, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). Some snacks will be provided. \nAccessibility notes: We will hike a short distance over rough mowed prairie to reach the planting site. You should expect to be kneeling and bending over throughout the event. There are restrooms located at the meeting location. \nNotes for youth planters: Planters of all ages are welcome but youth under the age of 14 must attend with an adult. Youth volunteers attending without their parent/guardian should contact our volunteer coordinator\, Jean\, to fill out a youth waiver before the event. \nLocation: We will be planting at Bald Hill Farm in Corvallis. Directions to the meeting location will be provided the week before the event.

SUMMARY:Into the Black - Bald Hill Farm Controlled Burn Tour
DESCRIPTION:Take a walk into the black with Greenbelt Land Trust staff to tour recently burned restored prairie at Bald Hill Farm. \nWe will discuss why land managers in the Willamette Valley use good fire to manage grassland and oak habitats and how fire helps these habitats thrive\, as well as give you a glimpse into the planning\, resources\, and partnerships necessary to carry out an ecological burn near an urban area. We will tour several of the recently burned units for a close up look at how a fire adapted habitat welcomes and responds to fire. \nThis walk will be up to 1.5 miles on a gravel road and mowed and burned grasslands\, with some mild to moderate elevation gain\, on mostly flat but often uneven ground. Restrooms are available at the beginning and end of the walk. \nIf you are allergic to stinging insects\, please let us know and bring your epi-pen. Dress for the weather. Long pants and closed toed footwear is strongly encouraged. No pets\, please.

SUMMARY:Mighty Acorns - Twilight Tour at Horseshoe
DESCRIPTION:Mighty Acorns – come explore outdoors with us! \nWe hope you can join us for an early evening of exploration and adventure!  This time we will learn about nocturnal animals with a focus on owls and bats!  We will also explore the trails and stop to listen to the sounds of nature and take time to notice what changes as the sun goes down. \nWe’ll start with a story and introduction to sounds and animals at night followed by a walk for about a mile along a mowed path at this lovely property that is adjacent to the Willamette River between Corvallis and Albany. After exploring\, we will make our own “paper airplane” flying bat to take home. \nWhat and Where? Explore nocturnal animals at Horseshoe Lake. Bathrooms are not available at this location\, so plan accordingly! \nWhen? Saturday\, August 22\, 2026\, 6 pm – 8 pm \nWho’s Invited? This is an exclusive event for Mighty Acorns and their families!  Not a member yet? Sign up to join the club HERE and we’ll have your welcome packet at this event! \nWhat to wear/bring? Dress for the weather! We will be walking on a mowed path in short grasses and vegetation along the edge of a prairie and in floodplain forest\, so long lightweight clothing and closed-toed shoes is the way to go. Please bring a water bottle and snacks if you want. Also bring your curiosity! \nSpace is limited for this walk\, so you need to register in advance. SUMMARY:Tarweed Awakening Corvallis: Prairie Walk at Bald Hill Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join us from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday\, August 21 for a botany focused walk through the prairies of Bald Hill Farm! \nGreenbelt Land Trust is thrilled to join this year’s Tarweed Awakening Corvallis festival with this walk focused on tarweed and the prairie ecosystem it depends on to thrive. We’ll spend the evening exploring Bald Hill Farm’s newly restored prairies\, learning about tarweed and other native prairie plants\, and discussing the importance of fire for valley ecosystems. \nAccessibility: The walk will cover approximately one mile on uneven mowed paths through the prairie. Participants should expect uneven ground and should plan to wear sturdy shoes\, and dress for the weather. \n  \nCan’t get enough Tarweed? Partners of the Tarweed Awakening Corvallis Festival will be hosting events and activities all weekend. Keep an eye out for more events\, from the OSU Indigenous Studies Program\, Corvallis Sustainability Coalition\, Corvallis Museum\, Tarweed Folk School\, Wild Yeast Bakery\, and Benton County Historical Society.

DESCRIPTION:Turtles and Restoration Tour of Harkens Lake \nWednesday\, July 29\, 2026 from 10:30 am – 12:30 noon \nJoin us for a tour and turtles at Harkens Lake\, a 404 acre conservation easement property along the Willamette River located north of the town of Monroe. This property is accessible only during tours such as these so don’t miss your chance to see this beautiful spot! Our tour will be led by our former Stewardship Director\, Matt Blakely Smith\, who will give us a great history of the restoration work that has taken place at this property over the years!  Our walk will be an easy paced 2 hour ramble over flat ground for up to 1.5 miles.  In addition to walking the property\, we will also get a chance to visit with Volunteer Coordinator\, Jean Fleming and Greenbelt volunteers who are conducting research to gather information about the population of Northwest Pond Turtles who make their home in several of the ponds and backwaters of this floodplain property. We will definitely get a chance to learn about their research and will hope that they catch some turtles that day too!

SUMMARY:Oregon Vesper Sparrow Talk and Walk
DESCRIPTION:Greenbelt Land Trust has been working with ornithologists since 2017 to research Oregon Vesper Sparrows at Bald Hill Farm and other Greenbelt sites. Oregon Vesper Sparrows use grassland habitats like the pastures and prairies of Bald Hill Farm\, and their numbers are in decline due to lack of suitable habitat. \nGreenbelt Land Trust Wildlife Technician Lisa Millbank will lead an informative talk about the sparrow\, current research\, and how we are working to provide the habitat it needs at Bald Hill Farm\, and then we’ll take a walk to see what we are doing and hopefully\, see and hear some birds as well! \nWe will walk for up to 1 mile on gravel roads and through prairie with some uneven ground. Restrooms available at the beginning and end of the program. We will have spotting scopes and binoculars to borrow – no birding experience necessary!
