SUMMARY:Turtles and Restoration Tour Harkens Lake
DESCRIPTION:Turtles and Restoration Tour of Harkens Lake \nWednesday\, July 29\, 2026 from 10:30 am – 12:30 noon \nJoin us for a tour and turtles at Harkens Lake\, a 404 acre conservation easement property along the Willamette River located north of the town of Monroe. This property is accessible only during tours such as these so don’t miss your chance to see this beautiful spot! Our tour will be led by our former Stewardship Director\, Matt Blakely Smith\, who will give us a great history of the restoration work that has taken place at this property over the years!  Our walk will be an easy paced 2 hour ramble over flat ground for up to 1.5 miles.  In addition to walking the property\, we will also get a chance to visit with Volunteer Coordinator\, Jean Fleming and Greenbelt volunteers who are conducting research to gather information about the population of Northwest Pond Turtles who make their home in several of the ponds and backwaters of this floodplain property. We will definitely get a chance to learn about their research and will hope that they catch some turtles that day too!

DESCRIPTION:Mighty Acorns – come explore outdoors with us! \nWe hope you can join us for another fun morning of exploration and adventure!  This time we will learn all about the many pollinators that are buzzing and flying in the flowers at Bald Hill Farm. Bathrooms available at the farmhouse and educational pavilion. \nWhen? Sunday\, July 19\, 2026\, 10 am – 12 noon \nWho’s Invited? This is an exclusive event for Mighty Acorns and their families!  Not a member yet? SUMMARY:Oregon Vesper Sparrow Talk and Walk
DESCRIPTION:Greenbelt Land Trust has been working with ornithologists since 2017 to research Oregon Vesper Sparrows at Bald Hill Farm and other Greenbelt sites. Oregon Vesper Sparrows use grassland habitats like the pastures and prairies of Bald Hill Farm\, and their numbers are in decline due to lack of suitable habitat. \nGreenbelt Land Trust Wildlife Technician Lisa Millbank will lead an informative talk about the sparrow\, current research\, and how we are working to provide the habitat it needs at Bald Hill Farm\, and then we’ll take a walk to see what we are doing and hopefully\, see and hear some birds as well! \nWe will walk for up to 1 mile on gravel roads and through prairie with some uneven ground. Restrooms available at the beginning and end of the program. We will have spotting scopes and binoculars to borrow – no birding experience necessary!

SUMMARY:Trail Cleanup Party at Bald Hill Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers for a spring trail work party at Bald Hill Farm! With summer around the corner and Heart of the Valley Runner’s annual Run for the Hills race coming up on June 7th\, we’re getting the trails into great shape for our race runners and other trail users. \nThis work party will focus on hiking the race course and trimming back brush that’s starting to encroach on the trail. We’ll split into small groups to cover more ground\, but we will come back together mid day to enjoy lunch at the top of Bald Hill. \nNo experience needed and volunteers of all ages are welcome! Tools and gloves will be provided. If you can only attend part of the time\, you are still welcome to join us\, just email jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to coordinate. \nWear: We’ll hike 3–4 miles as we work\, so please wear sturdy\, comfortable shoes and long pants. A long-sleeved shirt is recommended\, and a raincoat is always a good idea this time of year. \nBring: A water bottle\, lunch\, and any emergency medications you usually carry (like an Epi-Pen). Some snacks will be provided. \nAccessibility notes: We’ll carry hand tools and hike 3–4 miles on gravel and dirt trails\, including some elevation gain on Bald Hill. Restrooms are available at the parking location. There is some poison oak along the trail\, but we will identify it together at the beginning of the day and avoid it while we work. \nNotes for youth volunteers: Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Youth under 14 must attend with an adult and be comfortable with the hiking distance. Youth attending without a parent or guardian should contact Jean in advance to complete a youth waiver. \nLocation: We’ll meet at Bald Hill Farm in Corvallis. Directions will be emailed to registered volunteers the week before the event.

You can arrive anytime after 4 pm.  Absolute beginners and iNaturalist power-users are all invited! If you are new to iNaturalist\, we will start with a demonstration of this easy-to-use app\, and get you started on making observations. Everyone will get access to parts of Bald Hill Farm that are not open to the public to wander\, explore\, and discover as many plant and animal species as you can. \nWe will be set up with laptops at the end of the evening to look at your observations and help you with identifications. Great for all ages and abilities – take the City Nature Challenge with us! \nMore information will be shared with participants before the event to get you all set to go with iNaturalist.
