SUMMARY:Pollinators and Wildflowers - Family Day at Bald Hill Farm
DESCRIPTION:Want to help butterflies and bees? Join us for a family day of learning and exploring at Bald Hill Farm on Saturday\, May 11th\, from 10am-1pm! \nLearn how we protect bee and butterfly species and stroll through our restored meadows to find blooming wildflowers and pollinators at work! We’ll have fun pollinator education activities for kids aged K-5th grade and then we’ll head out for a walk at one of our restored prairies along our butterfly flyway at the farm. \nOur educational activities will be geared to K-5th grade but younger and older family members are welcome as well! Minors must be accompanied by an adult. \nIf you are only able to attend for part of the time\, you’re still welcome to join us\, just send an email to kendra@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss. \nWear: Plan to dress for the weather with layers and rain gear if needed. We are hoping for a nice sunny spring day – but we will hold the event rain or shine! The ground is fairly flat\, but uneven on our walk out and in the prairie\, so wearing sturdy shoes is recommended. \nBring: Please bring a water bottle that you can carry out on our walk. Some snacks will be provided. The event will run from 10am – 1pm and if you would like to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy afterwards\, you are welcome to do so! \nAccessibility notes: We will play games and learn about pollinators in an indoor/outdoor space and will then hike about a half mile on a gravel road to reach the restored prairie. You should expect to be kneeling and bending over as we look at wildflowers and observe some pollinators in action. Restrooms will be available at the start of the day\, but there are no restrooms at the planting location. \nLocation: We will be meeting at Bald Hill Farm on part of the property that is typically closed to the public. Directions to the meeting location will be provided the week before the event for all registered families.

SUMMARY:Kingston Prairie Willamette Daisy Planting Work Party
DESCRIPTION:Join Greenbelt and Institute for Applied Ecology staff and fellow volunteers for a work party planting Willamette Daisy (Erigeron decumbens) at Kingston Prairie. \nWillamette Daisy is an endangered daisy species present only within the Willamette valley. Willamette Daisy populations have been in decline due to loss of prairie habitat and competition from invasive plant species. IAE and Greenbelt both work to restore prairie habitat and Willamette daisy populations at multiple sites in the Willamette Valley and we’re excited to be engaging the community in a joint event. \n  \nWe are planning for a full day\, from 9am-3pm. If you are only able to attend for part of the time\, you’re still welcome to join us; just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss. \nWear: The weather could be cold and wet and the ground may be muddy\, so plan to bring warm layers\, a waterproof raincoat\, rain pants and boots. Bring a sun hat just in case. We will have plenty of gardening gloves available\, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. \nBring: Snacks and lunch\, water bottle\, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). \nAccessibility notes: There will be no restroom facilities on-site. We will walk on uneven gently sloping ground for up to 15 minutes to the planting site. Lifting and carrying 25lb plant trays is a possibility\, but not a requirement for everyone. Kneeling and bending over for extended periods should be expected while planting. Planting instructions will be provided and no previous experience is necessary. \nLocation: We will be planting at Kinston Prairie Preserve. Full directions and instructions will be sent to participants a few days before the event. \n  \nSign up below to do your part restoring endangered plant species!
