SUMMARY:Oregon Vesper Sparrow Talk and Walk
DESCRIPTION:Greenbelt Land Trust has been working with ornithologists since 2017 to research Oregon Vesper Sparrows at Bald Hill Farm and other Greenbelt sites. Restrooms available at the beginning and end of the program. We will have spotting scopes and binoculars to borrow – no birding experience necessary!

The ground will likely be soggy in the planting area\, so waterproof shoes are recommended! \nBring: Lunch\, a water bottle\, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). Some snacks will be provided. \nAccessibility notes: We will about a half mile off-trail over uneven ground to reach the planting site. You should expect to be kneeling and bending over throughout the event. There are no restroom located at Kingston Prairie. \nNotes for youth planters: Planters of all ages are welcome but youth under the age of 14 must attend with an adult. Tools and gloves will be provided. If you are only able to attend for part of the time\, you’re still welcome to join us\, just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss. \nWear: Plan to dress for the weather with layers and rain gear. There are no restroom located at Willamette Bluffs. \nNotes for youth planters: Planters of all ages are welcome but youth under the age of 14 must attend with an adult. Youth volunteers attending without their parent/guardian should contact our volunteer coordinator\, Jean\, to fill out a youth waiver before the event. \nLocation: Willamette Bluffs near Buena Vista\, about 25 minutes drive north from Corvallis. SUMMARY:Oak Research Showcase at Bald Hill Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Bald Hill Farm for a presentation followed by a field demonstration from Oregon State University graduate student\, Kellee Boyer whose research is focusing on the health of the Oregon White Oak – a keystone species in the Willamette Valley. \nKellee studies root disease in Oregon white oak ecosystems and is seeking to determine whether pre-existing root disease in these oaks increases susceptibility to Mediterranean oak borer infestation. \nHer research includes study sites at Bald Hill Farm. If weather allows\, after an indoor slide presentation we will also be able to see her use a sonic tomograph – a non-invasive tool that uses sound waves to create a detailed map of a tree’s internal structure\, helping to detect decay\, rot and cavities. This event will include an indoor slide presentation as well as some time outdoors.

SUMMARY:Woodpecker Walk at Bald Hill Farm
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at Bald Hill Farm for a morning of birding\, with a special focus on woodpeckers! Our oak woodlands host multiple Acorn Woodpecker colonies\, with granary trees for acorn storage. We will likely see several woodpecker species\, and if we are lucky\, we might spot one of the overwintering Lewis’s Woodpeckers. We’ll also enjoy the variety of other woodland and open-country birds that make use of the beautiful habitat at Bald Hill Farm. \nWe will be walking up to two miles on gravel roads\, as well as crossing uneven ground and walking up and down hills. This walk will be led by Lisa Millbank\, Naturalist and Wildlife Technician for Greenbelt Land Trust. Advanced registration is required.

SUMMARY:Oregon Vesper Sparrow Talk and Walk
DESCRIPTION:Greenbelt Land Trust has been working with ornithologists since 2017 to research Oregon Vesper Sparrows at Bald Hill Farm and other Greenbelt sites. Oregon Vesper Sparrows use grassland habitats like the pastures and prairies of Bald Hill Farm\, and their numbers are in decline due to lack of suitable habitat. \nGreenbelt Land Trust Wildlife Technician Lisa Millbank will lead an informative talk about the sparrow\, current research\, and how we are working to provide the habitat it needs at Bald Hill Farm\, and then we’ll take a walk to see what we are doing and hopefully\, see some birds as well! \nWe will walk for up to 1 mile on gravel roads and through prairie with some uneven ground. Restrooms available at the beginning and end of the program. We will have spotting scopes and binoculars to borrow – no birding experience necessary!
