SUMMARY:Milkweed Mingle & Planting **RESCHEDULED FOR 3/1/17 DUE TO WEATHER**
DESCRIPTION:Just as April showers bring May flowers\, spring milkweed planting can attract summer monarchs! These butterflies depend on milkweed for each stage of life\, but the loss of habitat and their food supply have led to this species’ decline in the Pacific Northwest. Please help us fill the “need for milkweed” by joining Greenbelt for an afternoon at Bald Hill Farm. We’ll be planting milkweed grown from seeds planted by volunteers at Greenbelt’s native nursery. Meet and mingle with other volunteers\, learn about monarchs\, and help bring more of these butterflies to the region! \nSpace is limited to 10 people. For more info or questions\, contact rebecca@greenbeltlandtrust.org. \nTo register\, please fill out the form below: \n\n

SUMMARY:Beavers & Wetlands Walk **FILLED**
DESCRIPTION:Beavers are OSU’s beloved mascot\, an important character in indigenous folklore\, a listed “nuisance” animal in some states\, and a fur-bearer trapped nearly to the point of extirpation.  They have had a long and sometimes controversial history in Oregon (it’s the beaver state after all!). For thousands of years\, beavers have been ecosystem engineers\, creating wetlands and altering landscapes to the benefit of many species\, such as coho salmon. \nJoin Greenbelt and Jimmy Taylor\, Supervisory Research Wildlife Biologist with the National Wildlife Research Center\, on a walk as we talk about beaver natural history\, explore a local wetland\, and observe an active beaver dam at Bald Hill Farm. \nThis walk is brought to you by Greenbelt Land Trust and The Wetlands Conservancy.  It takes place at the “tale” end of the Beaver Tales: A Celebration of Beaver Art exhibit spearheaded by The Wetlands Conservancy – and on exhibit throughout February at OSU’s LaSells Stewart Center. \nTo RSVP for the walk or for more info\, contact Rebecca@greenbeltlandtrust.org. \n

SUMMARY:Citizen Science Day: Turkey Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Benjamin Franklin called the turkey a “Bird of Courage” and wanted it\, not the bald eagle\, to be our national bird and emblem.  But did you know that turkeys are an introduced species in Oregon?  Greenbelt is monitoring turkeys at Bald Hill Farm to see if their numbers may impact native and rare plant species. And we need your help to do it! Join us for a morning of counting turkeys\, contributing to local citizen science\, and exploring parts of this special conservation area not publically accessible. Experience surveying birds or wildlife is beneficial but not required. \nNote: This opportunity is subject to be rescheduled due to inclement weather since turkeys will not be as active in heavy rain or snow. \nFor more info or questions\, contact rebecca@greenbeltlandtrust.org. \nTo register\, please fill out the form below:
