Lets Pull Together Day at Harkens Lake

Join Greenbelt as we do our part for Let’s Pull Together Day 2026 on March 16th from 9am-12pm. Hosted by conservation organizations across Benton County, Let’s Pull Together Day is a volunteer extravaganza focused on invasive species removal. This year Greenbelt staff and volunteers are working at Harkens Lake to remove invasive Garlic Mustard and make space for native species to thrive. We will use shovels and trowels to remove the Garlic Mustard. No previous experience is necessary and mustard pullers of all ages are welcome! Tools and gloves will be provided. If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us, just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.
Wear: Plan to dress for the weather with sun protection or rain gear. Hiking boots or other sturdy shoes are recommended. Please wear long pants and long sleeves to protect yourself as we work.
Bring: A water bottle and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). Some snacks will be provided.
Accessibility notes: Garlic mustard removal will involve repeated bending and pulling. We will hike a short distance off trail over uneven ground to reach the project area. We will likely encounter some poison oak during this project, but we will identify it as a group and work to avoid it while we are pulling. There are no restroom facilities at the Harkens Lake but there is private forested area near the project site.
Location: Harkens Lake is located just north east of Monroe, OR about 30 minutes drive from Corvallis. Exact directions to the parking location will be emailed out to registrants a few days before the event. Can’t make the drive to down to Monroe? Many of our partners are hosting events closer to Corvallis, check out the other events by following the registration link.
