Planting for Pollinators Family Day!

November 12, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Want to help butterflies and bees? Join us for a family day of learning and planting at Bald Hill Farm on Sunday, November 12th, from 10am-1pm!

Learn how we protect bee and butterfly species and help us build their habitat! We’ll have fun pollinator education activities for kids aged K-5th grade and then we’ll go out on the prairie and plant some of the native wildflowers our local pollinators need to thrive.

No previous experience is necessary and planters of all ages are welcome! Our educational activities will be geared to K-5th grade but younger and older family members are welcome as well! Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Materials, tools, and gloves will be provided.

If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us, just send an email to kendra@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.

Wear: Plan to dress for the weather with layers and rain gear. The ground will likely be soggy in the planting area, so rainboots or other waterproof shoes are recommended!

Bring: Please bring a water bottle that you can carry out to the planting site. Some snacks will be provided. The event will run from 10am – 1pm if you would like to bring a picnic lunch out to the planting area you are welcome to do so! Please note, the planting area is a beautiful open field, great for a picnic if the weather is good but there is no covered area in case of rain.

Accessibility notes: We will play games and learn about pollinators in an indoor/outdoor space and will then hike about a half mile on a gravel road to reach the planting site. You should expect to be kneeling and bending over as you plant. Restrooms will be available at the start of the day, but there are no restrooms at the planting location.

Location: We will be working at Bald Hill Farm. Directions to the meeting location will be provided the week before the event for all registered families.
