Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers for a festive work party along the Mulkey Ridge trail! This work party will focus on the removal of quick growing conifers within our restored oak woodlands project. We will use handsaws and loppers to remove the conifers and ensure that the oaks have plenty of room to grow for years to come.
We will be working from 10am-2pm. If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us, just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.
Wear: The weather could be cold and wet, so plan to bring warm layers, a waterproof raincoat, rain pants and hiking boots.
Bring: Snacks and lunch, water bottle, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens).
Accessibility notes: There will be no restroom facilities at the work site. You can expect 2-3 miles of hiking (both on and off-trail) and plenty of hand-sawing to warm up your arms and shoulders. There is poison oak in the area, which we will identify as a group in order to avoid it as much as possible during our work party. No previous experience is necessary.
Location: We will be cutting conifers at Bald Hill Farm. Full directions and instructions will be sent to participants a few days before the event.
