Volunteer Prairie Planting at Bald Hill Farm (Day 2)

December 8, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Two people in raingear work on planting next to a box of small plantsWant to help build habitat for two rare butterfly species? Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers as we improve restored prairie habitat at Bald Hill Farm on Friday December 8th, from 10 am to 2 pm. At this volunteer event, we will work together to plant bulbs and bareroot plants that will become a nectar source for butterflies and other native pollinators for years to come!

No previous experience is necessary and planters of all ages are welcome! Tools and gloves will be provided. If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us, just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.

Wear: Plan to dress for the weather with layers and rain gear. The ground will likely be soggy in the planting area, so waterproof shoes are recommended!

Bring: Lunch, a water bottle, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). Some snacks will be provided.

Accessibility notes: We will hike about a half mile on a gravel road to reach the planting site and you should expect to be kneeling and bending over throughout the event. Restrooms are located about a half-mile hike from the work site.

Notes for youth planters: Planters of all ages are welcome but youth under the age of 14 must attend with an adult. Youth volunteers attending without their parent/guardian should contact our volunteer coordinator, Jean to fill out a youth waiver before the event.

Location: We will be working at Bald Hill Farm. Directions to the meeting location will be provided the week before the event.
