Volunteer Seed Collection at Kingston Prairie

June 27 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

A collage of flowers and photos of people removing seed from plants in a field.

Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers for a seed collection work party on Thursday, June 27th, from 9 am to 1 pm. Kingston Prairie has a wealth of unique species and we can use your help to collect native plant seeds for replanting in our habitat restoration projects.

No previous experience is necessary and planters of all ages are welcome! Tools and gloves will be provided. If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us, just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.

Wear: Plan to dress for the weather with layers and sun protection. We will be working in a sunny open field. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat is recommended.

Bring: A water bottle, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). Some snacks will be provided. Feel free to bring a lunch and picnic at Kingston Prairie after the work is done.

Accessibility notes: We will hike about a half mile off-trail over uneven ground to reach the project site and you should expect to be kneeling and bending over throughout the event. There are no restrooms on site.

Notes for youth volunteers: Seed collectors of all ages are welcome but youth under the age of 14 must attend with an adult. Youth volunteers attending without their parent/guardian should contact our volunteer coordinator, Jean, to fill out a youth waiver before the event.

Location: We will be collecting seeds at Kingston Prairie Preserve, near Stayton, OR. The drive from Corvallis takes about 50 minutes. Directions to the meeting location will be provided the week before the event.
