Bald Hill Farm Willamette Daisy Planting Work Party Day 1

November 18, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join Greenbelt and Institute for Applied Ecology staff and fellow volunteers for a work party planting Willamette Daisy (Erigeron decumbens) at Bald Hill Farm.

Willamette Daisy is an endangered daisy species present only within the Willamette valley. Willamette Daisy populations have been in decline due to loss of prairie habitat and competition from invasive plant species. IAE and Greenbelt both work to restore prairie habitat and Willamette daisy populations at multiple sites in the Willamette Valley and we’re excited to be engaging the community in a joint event.

We are planning for a full day, from 9am-3pm. If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us; just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.  Please Note: This may be a shorter day depending on how much planting we get done on November 17th – feel free to sign up for both days!

Wear: The weather could be cold and wet and the ground may be muddy, so plan to bring warm layers, a waterproof raincoat, rain pants and boots. Bring a sun hat just in case. We will have plenty of gardening gloves available, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.

Bring: Snacks and lunch, water bottle, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens).

Accessibility notes: There will be no restroom facilities on-site. We will walk on uneven gently sloping ground for up to 15 minutes to the planting site. Lifting and carrying 25lb plant trays is a possibility, but not a requirement for everyone. Kneeling and bending over for extended periods should be expected while planting. Planting instructions will be provided and no previous experience is necessary.

Location: We will be planting at Bald Hill Farm. Full directions and instructions will be sent to participants a few days before the event.
