Earth Day Fence Removal at Santiam Kingston Hills

April 20 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers for an Earth Day work party removing un-needed fences at Santiam Kingston Hills on Saturday, April 20th, from 10 am to 2 pm. We will work to remove old wire and posts, opening up wildlife corridors and allowing for future property stewardship.

No previous experience is necessary and fence removers of all ages are welcome! Tools and gloves will be provided. If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us, just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.

Wear: Plan to dress for the weather with layers and rain gear or sun protection as needed. We will be working with barbed wire so closed toed shoes, long pants, and long sleeves are required.

Bring: Lunch, a water bottle, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). Some snacks will be provided.

Accessibility notes: We will hike about a mile off-trail over uneven ground to reach the fence removal site. We will use hand tools to free the barbed wire and field fence from blackberries, cut the fencing, and then remove it and roll it up. There are no restrooms on site but there is a forested area near the work site that can be used.

Notes for youth volunteers: Volunteers of all ages are welcome but youth under the age of 14 must attend with an adult. Youth volunteers attending without their parent/guardian should contact our volunteer coordinator, Jean, to fill out a youth waiver before the event.

Location: We will be working at Santiam Kingston Hills, near Stayton, OR. The drive from Corvallis takes about 50 minutes. Directions to the meeting location will be provided the week before the event.

Sign up below to celebrate Earth Day with us!
