Want to help butterflies and bees? Join us for a family day of learning and exploring at Bald Hill Farm on Saturday, May 11th, from 10am-1pm!
Learn how we protect bee and butterfly species and stroll through our restored meadows to find blooming wildflowers and pollinators at work! We’ll have fun pollinator education activities for kids aged K-5th grade and then we’ll head out for a walk at one of our restored prairies along our butterfly flyway at the farm.
Our educational activities will be geared to K-5th grade but younger and older family members are welcome as well! Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us, just send an email to kendra@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.
Wear: Plan to dress for the weather with layers and rain gear if needed. We are hoping for a nice sunny spring day – but we will hold the event rain or shine! The ground is fairly flat, but uneven on our walk out and in the prairie, so wearing sturdy shoes is recommended.
Bring: Please bring a water bottle that you can carry out on our walk. Some snacks will be provided. The event will run from 10am – 1pm and if you would like to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy afterwards, you are welcome to do so!
Accessibility notes: We will play games and learn about pollinators in an indoor/outdoor space and will then hike about a half mile on a gravel road to reach the restored prairie. You should expect to be kneeling and bending over as we look at wildflowers and observe some pollinators in action. Restrooms will be available at the start of the day, but there are no restrooms at the planting location.
Location: We will be meeting at Bald Hill Farm on part of the property that is typically closed to the public. Directions to the meeting location will be provided the week before the event for all registered families.
