Want to help an endangered species? Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers for a work party planting Willamette Daisy (Erigeron decumbens) at Willamette Bluffs on Saturday, November 22nd, from 10 am to 2 pm.
Willamette Daisy is an endangered daisy species present only within the Willamette valley. Willamette Daisy populations have been in decline due to loss of prairie habitat and competition from invasive plant species. Greenbelt works to restore prairie habitat and Willamette daisy populations at multiple sites in the Willamette Valley and we’re excited to bring volunteers out for this event.
No previous experience is necessary and planters of all ages are welcome! Tools and gloves will be provided. If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us, just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.
Wear: Plan to dress for the weather with layers and rain gear. The ground will likely be soggy in the planting area, so waterproof shoes are recommended!
Bring: Lunch, a water bottle, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). Some snacks will be provided.
Accessibility notes: We will hike about a half mile off-trail over uneven ground to reach the planting site. You should expect to be kneeling and bending over throughout the event. There are no restroom located at Willamette Bluffs.
Notes for youth planters: Planters of all ages are welcome but youth under the age of 14 must attend with an adult. Youth volunteers attending without their parent/guardian should contact our volunteer coordinator, Jean, to fill out a youth waiver before the event.
Location: Willamette Bluffs near Buena Vista, about 25 minutes drive north from Corvallis. Directions to the meeting location will be provided a few days before the event.
