River Hydrology Walk

November 2, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join Greenbelt habitat restoration staff and River Design Group hydrologists for a river hydrology walk at Harkens Lake (near Monroe).

Harkens Lake is one of four conservation areas making up nearly 1,000 acres that Greenbelt has permanently protected and is actively restoring on the Willamette River. We work closely with landowners to improve water quality, reduce down-stream flooding, and provide habitat for juvenile Chinook salmon. See the results of restoration work, including planting over 200,000 trees and attracting wildlife that are quickly re-colonizing this dynamic floodplain. Our trip will showcase on-the-ground activities that aim to bring new life to a portion of the Willamette few people have seen. We will also discuss how engineers created a new swale by removing levees and dykes to allow floodwater to once again connect with the River.

Access to this conservation easement is only permitted through tours like this, so take advantage of the special opportunity to see this unique conservation area with us!
