Camas Planting at Bald Hill Farm

October 24 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

A collage of three photos. A camas plant, a hand holding a camas bulb, and a group of people posing in a field, holding shovels and camas bulbs.

Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers for a work party planting Camas bulbs at Bald Hill Farm on Saturday, October 24th, from 10 am to 2 pm.

Camas is a quintessential Willamette Valley species. It is an important First Food of the Kalapuyan and other Indigenous Peoples, one of the first wildflowers that bloom in the valley each year, and a valuable nectar species for our native pollinators. Want to help make sure Greenbelt’s restored prairies are full of purple camas blooms next spring? Join us for a day of bulb planting.

No previous experience is necessary and planters of all ages are welcome. Tools and gloves will be provided. If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us, just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.

Wear: Plan to dress for the weather with layers and rain gear. The ground may be soggy in the planting area, so waterproof shoes are recommended.

Bring: Lunch, a water bottle, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). Some snacks will be provided.

Accessibility notes: We will hike a short distance over rough mowed prairie to reach the planting site. You should expect to be kneeling and bending over throughout the event. There are restrooms located at the meeting location.

Notes for youth planters: Planters of all ages are welcome but youth under the age of 14 must attend with an adult. Youth volunteers attending without their parent/guardian should contact our volunteer coordinator, Jean, to fill out a youth waiver before the event.

Location: We will be planting at Bald Hill Farm in Corvallis. Directions to the meeting location will be provided the week before the event.
