Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers for a trail work party at Bald Hill on Saturday, June 1st, from 9 am to 1 pm.
June 1st is National Trails Day and just one day before the annual Run For the Hills race hosted by the Heart of the Valley Runners at Bald Hill. We need your help to get the trails ready for race day and for a summer of hikers and runners! This work party will focus on hiking the race course and removing brush that has grown into the trails. We will split into groups as we work but will join back together for snacks and drinks at the Bald Hill Farm Farmhouse at the end of the work party. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy!
No previous experience is necessary and volunteers of all ages are welcome! Tools and gloves will be provided. If you are only able to attend for part of the time, you’re still welcome to join us just send an email to jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to discuss.
Wear: We will hike 3-4 miles as we work, so plan to wear comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes and long pants. A long-sleeved shirt is recommended to protect your arms, and it is always a good idea to pack a raincoat this time of year!
Bring: A water bottle, and any emergency medications you usually bring on outdoor excursions for personal use (like Epi-Pens). Some snacks will be provided. You can also bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the farmhouse after we finish our trail work.
Accessibility notes: We will carry hand tools and hike 3-4 miles on a gravel or dirt trail as we work, the race course includes Bald Hill and the Mulkey Ridge trail, so we will gain some elevation as we hike. There are restrooms available at the meeting location. There is poison oak located along the trail sides, we will identify it as a group and do our best to avoid it as we work.
Notes for youth planters: Volunteers of all ages are welcome but youth under the age of 14 must attend with an adult and be comfortable with the hiking distance. Youth volunteers attending without their parent/guardian should contact our volunteer coordinator, Jean, to fill out a youth waiver before the event.
Location: We will start out trail work project at Bald Hill Farm in Corvallis. Directions to the meeting location will be provided the week before the event.
