Oak Research Showcase at Bald Hill Farm
Join us at Bald Hill Farm for a presentation followed by a field demonstration from Oregon State University graduate student, Kellee Boyer whose research is focusing on the health of the Oregon White Oak – a keystone species in the Willamette Valley.
Kellee studies root disease in Oregon white oak ecosystems and is seeking to determine whether pre-existing root disease in these oaks increases susceptibility to Mediterranean oak borer infestation.
Her research includes study sites at Bald Hill Farm. If weather allows, after an indoor slide presentation we will also be able to see her use a sonic tomograph – a non-invasive tool that uses sound waves to create a detailed map of a tree’s internal structure, helping to detect decay, rot and cavities. This event will include an indoor slide presentation as well as some time outdoors.
