We will gather in the pre-dawn for a walk at sunrise at Harkens Lake, a 404 acre conservation easement along the Willamette River. Harkens Lake is named for an oxbow of the Willamette, one of the natural features that makes this an important conservation property. Since 2011, Greenbelt has been restoring floodplain forest habitat at Harkens Lake, a vital habitat for juvenile fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians and water quality.
We will take a contemplative and leisurely stroll in the stillness of the early morning, enjoying the fresh air and the sounds of the natural world waking to a new day. We will be walking along gravel roads and mowed paths, occassionally over ground with uneven or wet footing, and possibly through some taller vegetation at times as we explore. We will cover 1.5-2 miles on the walk. Restrooms are not available.
Please come prepared and dressed for the weather, and bring water, snacks, and any needed medications.
