Trail Work Party at Bald Hill – Saturday, May 24th, 9 am–1 pm
Join Greenbelt staff and fellow volunteers for a spring trail work party at Bald Hill Farm! With summer around the corner and Heart of the Valley Runner’s annual Run for the Hills race coming up on June 1st, we’re getting the trails into great shape for our race runners and other trail users.
This work party will focus on hiking the race course and trimming back brush that’s starting to encroach on the trail. We’ll split into small groups to cover more ground, then come back together at the Bald Hill Farm Farmhouse to enjoy snacks and drinks. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch if you’d like to stay and relax afterward!
No experience needed and volunteers of all ages are welcome! Tools and gloves will be provided. If you can only attend part of the time, that’s totally fine—just email jean@greenbeltlandtrust.org to coordinate.
Wear: We’ll hike 3–4 miles as we work, so please wear sturdy, comfortable shoes and long pants. A long-sleeved shirt is recommended, and a raincoat is always a good idea this time of year.
Bring: A water bottle and any emergency medications you usually carry (like an Epi-Pen). Some snacks will be provided. You’re also welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the end.
Accessibility notes: We’ll carry hand tools and hike 3–4 miles on gravel and dirt trails, including some elevation gain on Bald Hill and the Mulkey Ridge Trail. Restrooms are available at the parking location. There is some poison oak along the trail, but we will identify it together at the beginning of the day and avoid it while we work.
Notes for youth volunteers: Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Youth under 14 must attend with an adult and be comfortable with the hiking distance. Youth attending without a parent or guardian should contact Jean in advance to complete a youth waiver.
Location: We’ll meet at Bald Hill Farm in Corvallis. Directions will be emailed to registered volunteers the week before the event.
