While food is certainly a very important part of nutrition, there is so much more. Join Greenbelt, Enrich Health Consulting and local wildlife scientists for a unique talk and walk morning at Bald Hill Farm.

Join us for a morning of birding and exploring the trails at Luckiamute Meadows in Kings Valley. No prior birding experience is necessary and we will have 12 sets of binoculars to borrow if you need them thanks to a recent grant from the NL Peck & BB Peck Family Foundation! Several walk leaders from Salem Audubon who have conducted bird surveys on this site will be our guides for the day and will help us identify birds we see and hear. We will walk for up to 3 miles on flat mowed grass or dirt trails on this property located adjacent to Maxfield Creek and the Luckiamute River. We should encounter plenty of birds as we explore meadows, oak woodlands, riparian corridors, and acres of planted native trees and shrubs. Click here to register!
We will have lots of hands-on activities to learn about our native pollinators including bees, butterflies, birds! Join us to build a bee, dissect a flower, take our pollinator quiz challenge, learn about the role of pollinators in our ecosystems, find out ways you can support pollinators in your own yards, look at the scales of a butterfly under a digital microscope, and more! The first half of the day will be a free rotation through activities. Then, we will head out to a nearby restored prairie where we will get our hands dirty planting a variety of wildflowers and bulbs. These flowers will bloom next spring providing nectar sources for pollinators in the butterfly flyway of the property. All tools will be supplied, and no experience is necessary! Click below to register.
Come out to join Kendra Callahan at Owens Farm for a leisurely walk under the oaks and out in the fields of this lovely property. We will move at a leisurely pace and take time to stop, look, and listen and soak up the beauty of our surroundings.
The walk will be less than two miles but we will go off trail and walk across fields and uneven ground.
All ages are welcome, but we do ask that you sign up in advance and leave your dog at home!
Hope to see you there!
Mighty Acorns - come explore outdoors with us!
We hope you can join us to learn more about our Oregon state mammal - the beaver! We have multiple sites along Mulkey Creek at Bald Hill Farm in Corvallis where we can see beaver dams and signs of beaver activity. It will be daylight, so the beavers themselves will be sleeping, but there will still be a lot of cool things find and investigate.
We will start by meeting up in the farmhouse to read a story about beavers. We will find out why beavers are known as "ecosystem engineers" and learn about many of the amazing adaptations beaver have to help them spend much of their lives in and under the water. Then we'll head out through the fields and along the edge of the creek to a beaver dam with lots of signs of beaver activity.
After exploring the creek, we will finish our day with a hands-on activity building several miniature beaver dams, called beaver dam analogs (BDA's) that we will place in a ditch to slow down water that is moving through too quickly!
What and Where? Beavers at Bald Hill Farm. Bathrooms are available at the farmhouse.

We hope you can join us for another fun day of exploration and adventure! This time we will learn all about the lovely lichens that grow in our Pacific Northwest forests. After an introduction to lichens, we will head out along a beautiful trail that follows Maxfield Creek at Luckiamute Meadows in Kings Valley to find as many lichens as we can. We will search high and low on the trunks, branches and twigs of the many trees along our walk. Afterwards we will head back to make lichen stick figures using moss, lichen and sticks collected from the forest floor.
What and Where? Explore lichens at Luckiamute Meadows. Bathrooms available at Kings Valley Community Hall. Note that it takes approximately 30 minutes to drive to this location from downtown Corvallis.

We hope you can join us for an early evening of exploration and adventure! This time we will learn about nocturnal animals with a focus on owls and bats! We will also explore the trails and stop to listen to the sounds of nature and take time to notice what changes as the sun goes down.
We'll start with a story and introduction to sounds and animals at night followed by a walk for about a mile along a mowed path at this lovely property that is adjacent to the Willamette River between Corvallis and Albany. After exploring, we will make our own "paper airplane" flying bat to take home.
